Colorado Wing Cadet Honor Society

Purpose

The Colorado Wing Cadet Honor Society was created on 01 September 2020 as grounds for academic recognition and extrinsic motivation. In its implementation, numerous COWG CAP cadets have taken the initiative to apply and become a part of the society. There are two levels of membership in the Cadet Honor Society, an inductee and an inductee with distinction.

Eligibility

In order to be inducted into the Cadet Honor Society, a cadet must meet the following requirements:

  1. Member in good standing.
  2. Pass each exam required for promotion on the first attempt with a score of 90% or higher over four consecutive achievements.
  3. Achievement 1 will not be used.
  4. Must pass any required drill test on the first attempt.
  5. Have no period of more than 120 days without promoting over the 4 achievements used.

In order to be recognized as a member with distinction, cadets must meet the following requirements:

  1. Member in good standing.
  2. Pass each exam required for promotion on the first attempt with a score of 94% or higher over four consecutive achievements.
  3. Achievement 1 will not be used.
  4. Must pass any required drill test on the first attempt.
  5. Have no period of more than 120 days without promoting over the four achievements used.
  6. Cadets can be initially inducted as members with distinction or qualify after induction.

Recognition

  1. Members of the Cadet Honor Society are authorized to wear a blue and gold shoulder cord. Vanguard SKU: CAP0650H
  2. Members of the Cadet Honor Society with Distinction are authorized the cord in 3.a. with the addition of a single gold strand with a silver tip. Vanguard SKU: CAP0650J. Members with distinction will also receive an Achievement Award Ribbon.
  3. All members will receive a certificate upon induction to the Cadet Honor Society.
  4. Cadet Honor Society shoulder cords can be worn at all Colorado Wing events and activities with the exception of wing encampments.

Application Process

The application for Cadet Honor Society requests scores for four consecutive achievements including scores for leadership and aerospace tests. The Curry Achievement may not be included as one of the four required consecutive achievements. The Wright Brothers Milestone, Earhart Milestone, Achievement 12, Achievement 13, and Eaker Milestone do not require aerospace tests. Write ‘NA’ for the aerospace test score if you plan to use these achievements.

  1. Cadets will submit a COWG Honor Society Application to their squadron commander.
  2. Squadron commanders will endorse and submit the application to the COWG DCP who will approve or disapprove the application and notify the applicant, squadron commander, and wing commander.

Award Process

  1. COWG DCP will sign the certificate and mail to the squadron, the certificate, shoulder cord, ribbon if a member of distinction.
  2. Each certificate will be numbered in sequence of induction.
  3. Each Honor Society Cadet will be entered on the COWG website.
  4. The Squadron commander may present the certificate/shoulder cord to their cadet or the Squadron Commander may request the Group Commander, Group Cadet Programs Officer, or in case of Honor Society Distinction, COWG DCP to assist in the presentation.
